“Knowing Your Worth" - August 5, 2026 -Ms. Verae Fields
Verae Fields is a Youth Minister in Training at Logan Street Missionary Baptist Church and a dedicated youth leader who is passionate about coaching, mentoring, and guiding young people who have experienced trauma and adverse childhood experiences. She is committed to helping youth develop resilience, discover their potential, and cultivate a positive outlook on life despite the challenges they may face.
Verae recently obtained her professional license in child welfare-related work and is now actively serving in the field. She finds great fulfillment in helping others—not only young adults, but individuals of all ages—overcome obstacles and regain stability in their lives. She believes that access to the right resources, support systems, and guidance is essential, regardless of the mistakes, hardships, or struggles a person may have encountered. This belief is rooted in her own experiences and personal growth journey as she continues to navigate and embrace adulthood.
Currently, Verae is pursuing a Master’s degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology. Her goal is to bridge the fields of child welfare, consulting, and human resources to ensure that professionals working in social services have the tools, support, and organizational resources needed to thrive and create lasting impact within their communities. Verae received her Undergraduate degree in a Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology in May 2025.
During her undergraduate studies at Northern Illinois University, Verae served as President of the Association of Black Psychologists, a student organization dedicated to promoting mental health awareness and advocacy. In recognition of her leadership and service, she received the Outstanding Leadership Award for the 2025–2026 academic year.
In 2019, at the age of 17, Verae lost her mother to substance use disorder. Although this was a life-changing and painful experience, it strengthened her faith and deepened her relationship with Jesus Christ. Verae believes it is important not to allow difficult circumstances to weaken one’s faith or relationship with God. She honors her mother’s journey with compassion and is passionate about educating others that substance use disorder is not simply an addiction, but also a complex mental health condition that impacts individuals and families alike.
Verae is also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She resides in Aurora, Illinois, with her aunt and uncle, who have raised her since infancy. Deeply grateful for their unwavering love, guidance, and support, she proudly refers to them as her mom and dad, as they embraced the role of her parents just a few months after she was born.
